The City Of Philadelphia Still Owes Money For Veterans Stadium - The Juicy Online

Even though Veterans Stadium is gone, as it was demolished in 2004, the City of Philadelphia is still paying off the debt they owe on the stadium.

According to The Philly Post, the city still owes $183,000 on it, some 49 years after the city first approved the project for the stadium with a $25 million bond in 1964. Construction began in 1967 and the stadium opened in 1971. After "multiple" refinances on the original 30-year-old loan, the city will officially pay off on the loan in 2014, 10 years after the city demolished the stadium.

There's a mystery behind the stadium being refinanced. Sometime in the 1970's the stadium was refinanced and for some reason no one knows who nor why the stadium was refinanced. When the city Treasurer was asked about the loan status, she, Nancy Winkler, refused to comment on how much had actually been paid on Veterans Stadium since 1964.
